Bill McNichols (who was not quite the mayor yet in this photo) has some giant scissors unsheathed at the opening of a new Conoco station at East Colfax and Colorado 1968. McNichols was mayor for approximately 1,000 years (from 1969 to 1983), had the honor/scandal of having an arena named after him while he was still the mayor (usually you have to die or be hounded out of office first), and also left behind the greatest mayoral archive collection in Denver.
Three Conoco stations on this corner today.
